After being postponed due to weather, Movie Night finally returned to Paradise Green on Friday, October 30, bringing Wilcoxson families together for a free outdoor screening of Minions & Monsters.
Mother Nature apparently hadn’t gotten the message about the new date. Temperatures were chilly, and strong winds kept everyone on their toes throughout the evening. Families arrived bundled up in jackets, carrying blankets and lawn chairs, ready to settle in for a movie under the stars.
For the Fathers Club volunteers, the evening presented a few extra challenges.
The first was keeping our giant inflatable movie screen from becoming an oversized kite. Thanks to some expert staking, tying, and a little extra preparation, the screen stayed firmly in place despite the gusty conditions.
Then, just as showtime approached, a last-minute technical hiccup threatened to delay the movie. Thanks to some quick thinking and a little teamwork from our Fathers Club volunteers, everything was up and running just in time for the show.
And because apparently that wasn’t enough excitement for one evening, the power decided to take a few breaks of its own. Each time the lights went out, our volunteers were quick to track down the problem, reset the power, and get the movie rolling again.
Through it all, families stuck around, the kids enjoyed the movie, and the Fathers Club crew kept things running.
Of course, no outdoor movie night would be complete without snacks. Our concession stand offered treats and refreshments, with warm drinks being especially welcome on such a cold evening.
While the weather and equipment may have tested us, the evening was a great reminder of what makes events like this special. Movie Night isn’t about putting on a perfect production. It’s about giving Wilcoxson families an opportunity to spend time together, enjoy a fun evening, and make memories with their kids.
A huge thank you to everyone who came out despite the cold and wind, especially those who adjusted their plans after the postponement. We’re also grateful to the Fathers Club members and volunteers who spent their time setting up, running concessions, troubleshooting equipment, and packing everything away at the end of the night.
Events like Movie Night happen because of volunteers who are willing to pitch in, solve problems, and do whatever it takes to make the evening enjoyable for our families.
We may have had a few unexpected plot twists, but in the end, the show went on!
We look forward to seeing everyone at our next Wilcoxson Fathers Club event.
